The Ministry of Economic Planning, Sustainable Development, Industry, Information and Labour in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, National Reconciliation and Ecclesiastical Affairs and in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will be hosting the Caribbean Cyber Security Workshop.

The Workshop will take place on December 15th and 16th, 2016, at the Methodist Church Hall, Kingstown from 8:30 a.m. daily. The primary purpose of this workshop is to provide educators, parents and guardians with interactive sessions on the theme, “The Role of Education in Cyber Security: Developing Digital Citizenship”.

This is the second in a series of regional workshops which have been organized in collaboration with regional and global partners to deliver to the aforementioned stakeholders’ key information and learning on these important topics, to the ultimate benefit of Caribbean students and children.

The workshop will be designed and delivered by Dr. Kay Xuereb, a Caribbean-based international expert who has a track record of delivering similar awareness building sessions. However, it is very important that the sessions be grounded in the local context, hence the workshop will seek to include the participation of secondary school ICT teachers, school counselors, parents, guardians, student representatives and civic society.

The material developed for the workshop will be guided by international best practice in the area of Cyber Security awareness including Cyber Bullying, and will draw upon appropriate resources as available from, but not limited to:

  • The ITU’s Child Online Protection initiative
  • The stop Think Connect campaign
  • The Internet Watch Foundation

All media houses are invited to cover the Opening Ceremony on Thursday, 15th December 2016 at 8:30 a.m.
